Finally got the fenders squared away, tires mounted, and wheels back on the car!
I went from 7.5x17 et 42 in front and 8.5x17 et 52 in back to 9x17 et30 for all four corners.
I gained 2.5” of track in front and 2” in the rear.
I can finally rotate my 245/40/17 Pilot Super Sports when I want instead of having to have them mounted and dismounted.
I did wind up with a little more stretched look than I’d like, but the car is far more responsive now that the fronts aren’t all balloony.
I’d go to a 255 next time, but I think the Michelins are the best tires out there right now. They usually come in second in Tire Rack’s comparisons in the dry and in the wet, which means they usually win overall. And their treadwear rating is 50% better than everyone else (320 vs ~200 for everyone else). My first set lasted lots longer than my PS2s. So A) I believe it’s a legitimate rating, 2) it scares me away from others with only a 220 (or worse) rating, and D) I think I can live without a 255 or 265 (as fast - and sexy - as they would be).
At 16.5 pounds each, they are also ~4 pounds lighter than the old style 68 front wheels and ~5 pounds lighter than the rear wheels (which were about the lightest 17” OEM wheels available). So in total about 18 pounds of unsprung mass reduced.
I’ve wanted these for years - YEARS! So glad to finally get it done!

I never thought I’d want mud flaps for my M3.
That has now changed.

I think they were a dealer option. My car had then when I bought it. I’ve never thought about it, actually, but my wife’s car has a lot of road rash on her rear quarter and mine look brand new. I just assumed they all had them, and that most have been pulled / ripped off over time.
